| jan virnice t. sering on under the red, yellow and blue: the title under the red, yellow and blue is to signify the colors of the philippine flag. serving as a metaphor for the place in which filipinos live, the flag also symbolizes a country's sovereignty. but in my depiction in the artwork, it features people isolated from one another. the red sky shows tension thick in the air. now that the us just have been waging a war against iraq and with the balikatan planned in mindanao, what will happen to the women, the indigenous tribes, the children and the ordinary person? the marginalized
will be further pushed to the side. it sends a message that the government
often forgets the ordinary people and their needs are sidelined. text by the artist |
