| gretchen flores & carmel lim on cycle of function: jeeps were first brought to the philippines by the american army during world war II. after the war, we made use of the vehicles as a means for public and personal transportation. we transformed the basic jeep into the jeepney with our unique filipino style (found also in calesas and tricycles). the background of the compostion is red for war, violence and blood. the pictures are photocopies, second generation images to illustrate our distance and detachment from war. we chose to use the image of the jeepney armed with guns as a statement of the cycle of war. violence is repeated although the consequences are known. text by the artists |
